ASU offers a Bachelor of Science degree in American Indian Studies (AIS) within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. American Indian studies presents unique opportunities to evaluate issues of American Indian nations within a domestic and international context.

The AIS degree encompasses two areas of emphasis:

  1. Legal, policy and community and economic development

  2. Arts, languages and cultures

American Indian studies offers courses that provide intellectual and practical knowledge pertaining to American Indian cultures, history, law, literature, language, art and government.

American Indian studies emphasizes tribal sovereignty, cultural integrity and identity of the American Indian nations and peoples, creating a learning environment conducive to critical and creative thought.

American Indian studies emphasizes the ongoing effort of ASU to form strong partnerships with American Indian nations and urban Indian communities at the local, regional and national levels.
